Be smart – backup different
SmartBackup is an easy to use alternative backup application for Mac OS X. SmartBackup can create fast and efficient backups of your data, or a full bootable clone of your system.
It can backup to anything that is mountable on your Desktop, to external harddisks, flashdrives, iPods and any kind of network shares.
Easy to use backup for Mac OS X
SmartBackup uses its own powerful sync engine to determine what has changed since your last backup and copies only those files, dramatically speeding up the time it takes to have an up to date backup.
All your files are backed up as they are which makes them accessible even without SmartBackup. SmartBackup preserves all special Mac OS X file attributes and metadata when backing up your files.
Cloning for the rest of us
SmartBackup also supports the creation and syncing of a full bootable clone of your system.
By being able to sync only what has changed since the last backup, SmartBackup is one of the fastest ways to update your bootable clone to the current state.
Spotlight powered backup
SmartBackup lets you use Spotlight “saved search” folders just like an ordinary folder to define what needs to be backed up or what should be excluded. This is a very powerful way of creating dynamic configurations like backups based on a filetype, the time documents have been modified, or exclusion based on size or label colour.
SmartBackup can keep previous versions of your files in a time based archive. Simply search your backup for the file you need, select the version you require by date, and then restore it with one click.
A SmartBackup backup contains all your files, including your backup configuration. In case of emergency, when everything is lost, just download SmartBackup again, reselect your existing backup folder and restore the missing files with just one click using automatic restore.
SmartBackup can be launched as a commandline tool in a shellscript or as a LaunchDaemon. It fits well into your Mac OS X Server and Xsan environment.
